Examples of disruptive technologies that we found in the NZ press during October included:
- "Autonomous vehicles” just came a step closer.
- Solar power in the US is bringing significant disruption for the electricity industry.
Underlying and supporting these technology advances is the use of digital "smarts" - big data, analytics, sensors, mobile.
The auto-pilot car is effectively a mobile computer, with multiple sensors collecting "big data" that is processed at lightning speed, and fed back to the car.
The electricity grid is able to seamlessly absorb, and account for, electricity from an ever expanding base of micro-electricity producers - by using mass distributed smart meters and big data analytics.
Leaders in business and government are beginning to recognise that "digital disruption" will not just impact one industry but all industries - the combination of which is likely to be a fundamental change in all our lives over the next two decades and beyond.
